Growing up, I never understood “preppers.” Why live your life in fear? If something is going to happen, why not just move to a different location or a different country?
I vaguely remember having conversations with friends about their parents prepping and storing up canned goods. I think that we can all agree that today, in America, this doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.
‘And knowing their thoughts, He said to them, “Any kingdom that is divided against itself is being brought to desolation and laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will last or continue to stand.”’ - Matthew 12:25 AMPC
The interesting thing is that a lot of us are prepared for the fall of our country, but we aren’t prepared to meet God for a discussion about eternity. I don’t think anyone would disagree with someone storing up food, water, and generators at this point considering what’s happening in our country. But somehow, most of us are not seeking God with all of our heart during these times for preparation of what’s to come.
Isn’t it interesting that conspiracy theories will dictate our behavior, but not once do we consider God; the all-knowing, omnipresent God?
How silly is it to invest in something that’s almost guaranteed to fall? Oddly enough, the majority of the country thinks we are at a breaking point at any moment, but this same majority keeps investing and making plans for life to continue as it is.
“20 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own all the things you have prepared?’ 21 So it is for the one who continues to store up and hoard possessions for himself, and is not rich [in his relationship] toward God.” - Luke 12:20-21 AMP
I can’t help but think about the hurricane that came through North Carolina last week and destroyed homes, careers, and plans. An entire town was swept away in a flood that no one was expecting.
In the Bible, we find a similar story in the days of Noah. Everyone is carried away by their own plans, until the flood happens.
“37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” - Matthew 24:37-39 NKJV
A question comes to mind — Why do we wait until disaster to cling wholeheartedly to God?
Is God, the Creator of the universe, someone who is okay with humans running to him only when they are in need?
“24 Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 Because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, 30 They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke.” - Proverbs 1:24-30 NKJV
Question of the Day: Will you hit your knees today, or wait until the flood comes?
