"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." - Luke 2:11
As a child, I remember being ecstatic every time the holiday season would come around. I couldn’t wait to see all the people I hadn’t seen all year. As everyone got together, we would update each other on our lives and share all the exciting things that had been happening.
However, as I grew older, I had the privilege of getting a cellphone and creating a social media account. Having these things changed my perspective on holidays. This is because whenever someone would ask me to update them on my life, I would wonder: if they really wanted to know, why wouldn’t they just call me?
I slowly began to realize that I was celebrating the death of a man, who loved me so much that He died for me, with people who don't really speak to me majority of the year
As my spiritual maturity increased, my focus shifted from how i felt on Christmas to wondering how God feels.
On this day, we have hundreds of millions of people acknowledging the fact that Jesus was born but refusing to do anything He said to do.
So I guess my question is, how would you feel if it was your birthday and everyone acknowledged your presence, but never did what you asked?
In the Bible, we see disciples who didn’t celebrate the birth of Jesus each year, yet all of them eventually died preaching the same message He preached. So if God has disciples that loved Jesus so much that they left everything to follow and eventually died for Him, how pleased is He with people who will acknowledge His presence for one day then spend the rest of the year not doing anything He asked them to do?
We should ask ourselves, does this day please Him? Or is it simply a constant reminder of His Son dying for people who only use His life as an excuse to miss work and get those expensive earrings?
“If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.” - John 14:15 AMP
