Have You Left the Seen?

Growing up, I always looked up to my brother and his friends. They were really cool football players. I always told myself that when I got older, I would be a football player just like them.

I remember it like it was yesterday. One of my brother’s friends had made it to the NFL, but then he got into some trouble. Reports had come out on ESPN that someone wrecked his car and fled the scene.

We all were puzzled — could this be Brandon? Or had one of his friends borrowed his car? How could someone put the lives of others in danger and then just leave the car behind? This situation brought a lot of negative attention to Brandon’s NFL career. People questioned, what kind of person would flee the scene of an accident?

What I’ve realized is that in the natural realm, if someone flees the scene, they are breaking the law. God, however, wants everyone to leave the seen in order to enter into the spiritual realm of life.

We see in the Bible that the people who had great faith never made decisions based on what they could see. Abraham left a country and traveled through the wilderness, trusting God, not knowing what he would eat or where he would sleep.

"By faith Abraham, when he was called [by God], obeyed by going to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went, not knowing where he was going." - Hebrews 11:8 AMP

Noah trusted God and built an ark, preparing for a flood although there were no signs of rain.

"By faith [with confidence in God and His word] Noah, being warned by God about events not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his family. By this [act of obedience] he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which comes by faith." - Hebrews 11:7 AMP

Elisha was surrounded by an army, but he prayed and asked God to open up the eyes of his servant so they could see that there were more who were with them than against them.

"Elisha answered, 'Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.' Then Elisha prayed and said, 'Lord, please, open his eyes that he may see.' And the Lord opened the servants eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha." - 2 Kings 6:16-17 AMP

When everyone saw only a few loaves of bread and a couple fish, Jesus saw enough food to feed 5,000 people.

"They replied, 'We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.' He said, 'Bring them here to Me.' Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and He took the five loaves and the two fish and, looking up toward heaven, He blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people, and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked up twelve full baskets of the leftover broken pieces. There were about 5,000 men who ate, besides women and children." - Matthew 14:17-21 AMP

In Hebrews 11, we see everything that was accomplished by people believing in what they could not see. It is impossible to please God living any other way. God says that it is impossible to please Him without faith. Faith is assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

"Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]." - Hebrews 11:1 AMP

"But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him." - Hebrews 11:6 AMP

Fleeing the scene in the natural realm will lead you to jail.

But fleeing the seen in the spiritual realm will keep you from hell.

"But My righteous one [the one justified by faith] shall live by faith [respecting man’s relationship to God and trusting Him]; And if he draws back [shrinking in fear], My soul has no delight in him." - Hebrews 10:38 AMP
