"The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." - 2 Peter 3:9
As a kid, I remember that I would get in trouble very often. Almost every single time, my punishment was either getting spanked or being grounded. I hardly ever got grounded, but there was one time when I got spanked and grounded — this is that time.
One day I got in trouble in school. The principal called my dad’s cell phone to inform him of what happened. I remember getting home that day knowing that my dad received a call from the principal because I had watched the principal make that call in front of me.
However, to my surprise, there was no immediate response from my dad from the phone call when he saw me after school. Arrogantly, I began to think that because of my football game that was coming up that my dad would ignore the trouble that I was getting into at school.
The next day I got home from school still thinking that my dad had forgotten about the call from the principal. But when I walked into his room, I saw two belts pressed together. At that exact moment, I realized that my dad never intended on allowing me to exhibit this behavior without consequences.
As I got older, I realized that getting in trouble wasn’t only ruining my reputation at school, but it was damaging my dad’s reputation, too, in front of all my classmates and teachers. So, of course, there would be punishment.
This is the same type of pattern that God shows in His Word. We see time and time again that God allows things to go on for periods of time before we ever see His true feelings toward a situation.
So is God passive? Or does He have an amount of patience that is not fathomable to the human brain?
God sees the mockery of Him that we are making of Him in America. With transgender holidays, gay pride parades, and the intentions of pushing the LGBTQ agenda on children. However, because there has not been an immediate response, we tend to think that God doesn’t care about any of these things.
My question today is: “Is God passive? Or does he have an extreme amount of patience?”
To continue on living life in America as if God isn’t extremely displeased would simply be foolish.
Do we prepare for God’s wrath on a country that has turned its back on Him? Or do we assume that He doesn’t see all that we do?
